APRIL 2010 STEEP PARISH COUNCIL

MEETING HELD ON MONDAY, 1ST MARCH 2010

PUBLIC EXHIBITION TO VIEW THE PROPOSALS FOR THE CHURCH ROAD SITE

Please come and view the Exhibition in Steep Village Hall which is a chance for you to see the proposals put forward for the development of the site in Church Road. We as a Parish Council have reached a crossroads and would like the residents of the entire parish to give their opinion by voting, after you have seen for yourselves the proposals being put forward. These include the provision of nine affordable houses for rent to tenants with a close connection to the parish, raised allotments and an open space at the front of the site. An independent postal ballot will take place afterwards and it is hoped that having viewed the Exhibition, parishioners will be as well informed as possible before casting their vote.

The opening times of the Exhibition are:

Thursday, 22nd April – 5.00-8.00 p.m.
Friday, 23rd April – 6.00-8.00 p.m. (in the small room)
Saturday, 24th April – 10.00-12.00 and 2.00-4.00 p.m.

A representative of the Parish Council will be in attendance at all times to answer your questions. Representatives from EHDC, the Rural Housing Department and the Housing Association will also attend at various times.

PUBLIC COMMENT
  • Bedales are keen to engage with the community in a joint venture and it was suggested that if allotment provision is made, they would be willing to provide staff and a tractor to help prepare land;
  • It was queried whether there had been any progress with the search for alternative land for affordable housing – the Chairman replied that he was not aware of anything further at this stage;
  • A statement was read aloud setting out concerns with regard to the way the Parish Council has dealt with the issues surrounding the affordable housing project and their response to requests for allotment provision.

ALLOTMENT PROVISION – A letter regarding Allotment provision on the Church Road site was considered. Allotments are provided as part of the brief for the Church Road site along with the open space and affordable housing. It is hoped that the use of this land will be decided within the next couple of months following the Public Exhibition and subsequent vote. However, as this will be too late for this year’s planting, it was agreed that the Ridge Common Lane site be offered to those on the waiting list who might be interested.
